Rick, wow!! Congratulations!! It’s amazing that your book is in the top 50 poetry books on Amazon based on reviews. What a journey it’s been. I just caught up on your blog on your entries since the last time I read them, and as always your poetry is so real and accessible, even to a non-poetry person like me. It really contrasts with other poetry I’ve read that made no sense to me at all and felt very contrived. And I’m even talking about “famous” poets.

Thanks, Lisa. I try to express what comes to me in natural language, creatively, with integrity and impact. My intention is to articulate elements specific to my experience and inner life as a man and a human being that are typically unspoken and disowned in our culture. In doing so, I hope that I am also expressing more universal aspects of the human experience and giving others permission to acknowledge, explore, and express those elements of their own experience and inner lives that may have been hidden or neglected, for whatever reason.

I believe that truth, however uncomfortable or unpleasant it may be perceived to be, is the foundation of healing, growth, and freedom, and I try to express the truth of my experience, as best I can see it, as clearly and directly as I can. I know this benefits me and I hope it benefits others as well.
