Poetry on video: “use everything”

Today’s poem on video is “use everything” from my upcoming book Scapegoat’s Cross: Poems about Finding and Reclaiming the Lost Man Within.

This is one of my personal favorites from the new book and one I like to revisit whenever I feel like life’s getting to be a little too much.

When we were in the Marines we had a philosophy:
You don’t go in with one gun blazing.
You go in with everything you’ve got – and then some. (hoping for a nuclear bomb in the background).
It’s the only way to succeed.
Sounds like you found that there.
And we’ve found it all the time (meaning “everything”).
Just takes hard work; souls naked in storms – weathering everything – and finding the ones you love.
Truly yours and your own. (<-a symbol we don't understand, but its there; we leave it now)
